About Their Stories & Me
The Their Stories podcast and blog website is a direct result of my own personal circumstances. In 2019 my father died. For three years before his death, we talked once or twice per day. And of course, many of those conversations involved his experiences and reminisces of our family life. Though I miss him, I soon realized I miss the retelling of his own stories. I did not think to record them and regretted it.
Further, in 2020 my mother moved to an assisted living facility. Making it worse, she had problems with aphasia (essentially that is problems speaking clearly and coherently). Fortunately, her situation improved. She now has very few problems with aphasia. So in November of 2020, I started recording most of our daily conversations.
However, her conversations tend to yield snippets of stories. So, I find it necessary to weave together those snippets to be able to share a story with others. And that’s when I realized we can create a community where we can learn and share how to preserve and publish the life stories of loved ones. Essentially we can learn from one another.
