Intro
This is another in the continuing set of small blog posts that offer a glimpse to the various resources that are available to you. This and other resources can be found though search, categories, and the Resources page.
If you think you want to use a podcast to share the oral history of your loved one, then you should think through why you want to do this. To that end this article, while it’s for a company that helps people start podcasts, raises excellent points to consider.
Thoughts
First, if you think you will make a lot of money with a podcast, you can forget that thought right away. Very, very few podcasts make a lot of money. Some make enough to help defray the costs. Mostly they should be a labor of love. If you want to make the information available to your family and friends, then you will make almost no money.
But if you want to make a “private” podcast available to yuor family, a podcast does an excellent job of helping record, edit and publish an oral history. You can have as many “episodes” as you want. It doesn’t even need to be published using podcast publishing tools. You could just put it onto a podcast host and NOT publish it to the podcast directories. Or you could just upload them to cloud storage (a Dropbox address, a Google Drive, Apple iCloud storage, etc.). You get the idea.
So whichever way you go, take the time to consider “What you need to know first”!
Excerpts
The podcasting space is saturated. As heck. So, getting started can feel really daunting to anyone with a great concept in mind—but little direction past that. We’ll get into the nitty gritty of how to podcast later on. First, we have a few foundational questions for you.
It’s natural to be afraid of going too niche—you might wonder, “are there really enough people out there who want this?”
You want it to be unique and catchy, but still hint at what your podcast is actually about.
Put a good bit of thought behind your podcast’s cover art—it’s what will either draw people in, or make them keep scrolling.
Growing your podcast audience, just like growing any audience, takes a lot of time.
Is this all up to you and your schedule, or will you be relying on others to help you?
You have to be consistent with your content; that’s more important than pumping out loads of content.
Are you feeling overwhelmed with content creation? We get it—it’s quite the undertaking.
